OneTen is a coalition of leading chief executives and their companies who are coming together to hire, promote, and advance one million Black individuals who do not yet have a four-year degree into family-sustaining careers over the next 10 years. We take a skills-first approach, connecting employers with talent partners, leading nonprofits, and other skill-credentialing organizations to support the development and promotion of diverse talent. Ultimately, our vision is to close the racial wealth gap in the United States.

OneTen’s coalition has grown to include the support of over 60 companies across industries. The OneTen.org Technology team is looking for a Technology and Experience Manager who is passionate about providing an exceptional and ever-evolving experience with the OneTen technology suite to both internal and external stakeholders in support of the strategy that ultimately will change the lives of Black Americans.

Position Summary:

The OneTen Technology team is looking for a Head of User Experience (UX) who is passionate about envisioning and designing a platform that will change the lives of Black Americans. We are looking for a proven design leader who excels in their human-centered design approach and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced “startup” environment. 

You will work closely with a cross-functional, highly capable team of designers, researchers, content strategists, product managers, analytics experts and engineers to help bring the OneTen platform to the next level, ensuring designs are able to meet the needs of our users — Black talent, Employers and Talent Development organizations — and deliver on the OneTen mission.

We are looking for a highly collaborative, motivated individual with exceptional problem-solving, strategic, and communication skills. You’re comfortable with ambiguity and change, able to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment, and have a passion for making an impact. You balance user needs, technical constraints, and organizational objectives to prioritize and make strategic choices that drive impact.

As a small and growing team, we’re looking for a leader who is excited to both roll up their sleeves to design solutions and serve as our first UX/UI designer in the near-term, and build, grow and direct a world-class design team in the mid-term. 

Position Summary:

  • Proven experience in running internal IT operations
  • Bring a passion for the end-users and transform the end to end experiences of how Black talent, employers and Talent Developers are connecting to create family-sustaining jobs and opportunities for Black talent
  • Influence and evangelize a great data-informed design culture and highly collaborative environment throughout the organization. Conduct quantitative and qualitative research with multiple user groups andSynthesize and distill findings into actionable insights
  • Define cohesive and seamless flows for users coming from email, notifications, and content marketing to discover and engage with our platform;
  • Drive cross-team ideation and concept creation while balancing process & productivity with craft and creative explorations;
  • Bring those ideas to life for all involved stakeholders through wireframes, storyboards and/or sketches, journey maps, and information architecture;
  • Understand end-to-end usability challenges via session playback analysis, usability testing, participatory design, etc., of various user states and segments;
  • Guide your designs through an iterative cycle to co-create, deploy, test, analyze and rapidly iterate on your designs.
  • Work closely with the product and technology teams, to translate user needs to inform the product strategy and roadmap, while balancing near-term continuous product improvement and longer-term innovation.

Requirements: What you must bring 

  • 10+ years experience designing digital products, services or platforms and experience shipping user-centered consumer mobile apps and/or web products, preferably in a fast-growing startup environment.
  • 5+ years of management experience, including experience building and leading design and user research teams within a cross-functional organizationExtensive experience working on apps with hundreds of thousands of users
  • Thorough understanding of Design Thinking, Human-Centered Design and Agile processes
  • Familiarity with latest collaboration and design technology (e.g. Figma, Miro, Sketch, Invision, Adobe XD)
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively design processes, trade-offs, and solutions across varying audiences.
  • Ability to own and drive the design process from start to finish while maintaining high standards for yourself and your peers
  • A highly ambitious and entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environmentExperience working with technology partners / vendors to deliver digital solutions
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team – especially working closely with product, engineering, analytics and marketing
  • Great communication skills, with the ability to speak fluently to product managers, designers, engineers, senior leadership, and other key partners

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with HR, Recruiting or Hiring technology
  • Familiarity with nonprofit and/or startup environments
  • Experience in growing a multi-disciplinary design team
  • Desire to mentor and grow up-and-coming designers
  • Experience working on issues of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and/or issues of systemic racial inequity
